What Started the CHAOS series…

First, let me say how grateful I am to the hundreds of thousands of people who have already read Chaos in the Blink of an Eye. This writer thanks you all from the bottom of my heart. If I could hug you all, I would do it.

With the final installment about to be completed, I feel certain that the number of readers will be taken to the highest levels. So many have contacted me over the years saying they were waiting for the CHAOS series to be finished, before purchasing it. This way, they could binge-read the series.

If you are a first-time visitor to the website, allow me to share with you what inspired the CHAOS series. In a nutshell, it stems from my deep love of sports, which, I admit, has diminished considerably over the years. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy watching the games on TV, and even attending sporting events when I have the time. But these days I view them from an entirely different perspective, than when I wore a younger man’s face and displayed a weaker man’s faith in God.

This slow but gradual shrinking away started back in 1991, after I got saved. The Lord impressed upon my heart, at that time, that the fastest growing religion in America, and the world for that matter, wasn’t Christianity nor Islam, it was “sports”.

Every day of the week—including Sundays—millions of fans fill stadiums and arenas (or shall I say cathedrals?) planetwide, to worship their heroes, as if they were gods. When their teams win, life is good. When they lose, life is miserable. As a once-guilty fanatical participant myself, for many years, I should know.

As a dedicated Christ follower, I now believe the passion most fans have for their favorite players and sports teams, is the same passion we should all have in pursuing the One who saw our unformed bodies from the foundations of the world, the very One who knit us together inside our mothers’ wombs. Tragically, this is not the case.

Hence, the reason for the CHAOS series.

The sporting event I chose for the story was the famed Michigan-Ohio State college football rivalry. Prior to writing the prequel, I traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to attend the game. I confess that I was just as caught up in the mass hysteria as everyone else that day. It was impossible not to be swept up into the vortex that had completely engulfed the vibrant college town. The energy was palpable. So much so that I had to keep reminding myself that I was there to research and observe everything connected to the game, so I could bring it all to life for my readers. In short, the game itself needed to always remain on the backburners of my mind and emotions.

Though the prequel centers on the football game, this is not a “sports” series. This will become quite clear to you when Bible prophecy comes to pass inside Michigan Stadium, and life is forever changed for all of humanity, in the blink of an eye.

The chaotic aftermath that ensues was recorded in the Word of God more than 2,000 years ago…

Enjoy reading…

SERIES SYNOPSIS: As the football was kicked into the snow-filled sky, long-foretold Bible prophecy came to pass, causing many inside Michigan Stadium to vanish into thin air, without a trace. It was just the beginning of things to come, as life as humanity had known it was forever changed in the blink of an eye…

*** For those of you who are wondering about the www.LSARglobal.org (Last Shot At Redemption) website that was brought to life in the “Chaos in the Blink of an Eye” series, the page is still under construction. Soon, not only will LSAR be featured on this site—to mirror the way it was portrayed in the series—but it will also include interactive features to keep bringing readers back (e.g. questions for the author, various surveys, free book giveaways, top reader interviews, and so on).

If you would like to be contacted when the website is fully functional, including the book store order page, message me at patrickhiggins@12272003, and you will be added to the list. Until then, may God bless and keep you and yours…

The inspiration for my novel, The Pelican Trees, came when I was visiting Sanibel Island, in southwest Florida, many years ago. I went for a stroll on the beach one afternoon, and I stumbled upon a large banyan tree flanked by two pine trees. All three were full of pelicans.

Suddenly, thoughts started popping in my head like popcorn in a popper. The characters in the story who are still so dear to me, Shelby McKinney, Luther Mellon, Mabel Saunders or Stuart Finkel, had yet to come to the forefront of my mind. All I knew that day was that I felt inspired to write a Christian novel.

A few years later, The Pelican Trees was published. On many levels, it’s still my favorite book.
